As most of you know, I don’t get the opportunity to spend quality time with volunteer groups very often. Well, this week was one of those weeks when I did. And it was with one of my favorite groups—OK, I don’t have favorite groups but if I did Salem LC would be one of those. There aren’t very many things in life that I enjoy more than reminiscing about families we have served before—especially if they’re some of our favorite families. OK, got me again. We don’t have favorite families but if we did . . .
Salem DRT’ s first family with us was a young Vietnamese couple with three little girls—East Biloxi circa 2007. Salem started Monday with bare studs and a roof with a 10 ft elevated house. By the end of the week, there was a house there. But that family poured as much love into the Salem crew as Salem poured into them. Vietnamese lunches every day, etc. Need I say more.
Of course, Salem did it again on this trip. They fell in love with their Hurricane Florence homeowners. Ask them about Jordan and Raymond and . . .
And I think they also fell in love with Mercy Chefs! Yes, that’s correct—Salem was the last Panama City team to be fed by our partners Mercy Chefs until we clear the air of this coronavirus thing. Bart Tucker, President of FCDR
