Two years ago this month Hurricane Florence did significant damage to the New Bern NC and surrounding areas. You can still drive around and see tarps on roofs so the work is not done.
We started a partnership with the Pamlico County Disaster Recovery Alliance (PCDRA) earlier this year and even with the Coronavirus drastically reducing our volunteers we have been able to complete 17 homes in that county thanks to generous grants from SBP and Red Cross.
Unfortunately, those grants expired at the end of June so the dollars to help homeowners rebuild their homes is getting tougher to come by but God works in mysterious ways. We have been averaging 6 home completions per month in the last 6 months and I feared we’d only be able to help one homeowner every 2 months going forward until some other funding sources we are working on came through.
PCDRA has a group from the Brethren Disaster Ministries that will have volunteers coming through the end of the year starting next week. So with those volunteers, grant money from the PCDRA, and some Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilder grant money we feel we may be able to help an additional 6-8 homeowners in Pamlico county between now and the end of the year. This would not be possible without this 3-way partnership and God working in his mysterious ways to help those in need.
