As you may know, Aaron and I have been in and around the Lake Charles area for the past few days. We’ve been getting a closer look at the damage caused by the wrath of Hurricane Laura. MY HEART IS BREAKING
I was born and raised near Lake Charles, so this really hits home for me. Even though my family members have all sustained some damage to their homes, they are ok physically. My prayers go out to all of the families who weren’t as fortunate.
Everywhere we’ve been so far has sustained damage to some extent. The pics below show only a glimpse of what we are seeing.
The first pics are from Iowa, La. Homeowners have told us that the eastern edge of the eyewall sat over this area for 6 hours, and it shows. The rest of the pics were taken in and around the Lake Charles area. The widespread devastation is so overwhelming!!!
It’s hard for anyone to imagine living without running water, electricity, grocery stores or gas stations. This is real life for so many right now, and will be for weeks. Water and power are slowly being restored, but it will take weeks for many to have these basic necessities. Living in your damaged home without having running water or electricity is bad enough. Add on top of that the heat index. It’s 105-110 degrees here.
Please do what you can, and I know the blessings you will receive will be multiplied exponentially. These people need your help!! Toni Karam Ratliff/ FCDR
