It was a great blessing to have The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd of Venice Florida who also had volunteers from Michigan join them for a total of 17 volunteers.
They worked on 2 homes in Arapahoe, NC which is in Pamlico County east of New Bern.
They worked on Ms. Gloria’s home which was damaged during Hurricane Florence. Her roof was damaged (has been reshingled by friends of hers) and her wheelchair ramps were destroyed so she hasn’t been able to re-enter her home for over 2-1/2 years. The Good Shepherd team built her a new ramp (see video below of Gloria using her new ramp), repaired damaged siding, and began reconfiguring the interior of her home to make it more wheelchair friendly (she had a 24” door to her bathroom). She also still has damage inside her home so we work on fixing that up over the next few months as we are seeing volunteers start ramping back up.
The other home the Good Shepherd team worked on was Ray and Nancy’s. Ray and Nancy had already done repairs inside their home caused by flooding. We worked on fixing/painting siding and also helped clean up some of the landscaping. It was an honor for us to help do this for Ray and Nancy as they do a tremendous amount to help their community by providing food to those in need.
I also want to thank Camp Caroline and Casey for being such gracious hosts and opening their camp to us to help the community. They even have a cute mother fox with baby cubs to watch
